How 30 checks become one number
Every audit starts at 100. Each check that warns or fails subtracts a fixed weight, set by how much it matters: up to 12 for a page not served over HTTPS, 1 for a favicon. A pass subtracts nothing, and the score never goes below 0. Five failures stop a launch outright (no HTTPS, noindex on a live site, robots.txt blocking Google, a canonical pointing at staging, a form sending to staging), and while one stands the score is capped at 49. The weights never change, so the same page gets the same score every time.
| Starting score | 100 |
|---|---|
| HSTS header missing (fail, high) | −6 |
| Meta description missing (fail, medium) | −5 |
| Open Graph image missing (fail, medium) | −5 |
| Ship readiness | 84 / 100 |
What the free check will not do
- The free check reads one public page, the URL you give it, as an anonymous visitor sees it, plus that site's /robots.txt, and checks without downloading them that its sitemap, share image and own files load. Nothing behind a login, nothing crawled site-wide.
- It never writes to your site, submits your forms, or changes a setting.
- It is a snapshot, not a monitor, and not a guarantee. A score of 100 still means you should look at the page yourself.
